A Google Business Profile (GBP) is a free online listing that gives potential customers information about local businesses. The profile will list the name of your business, business address, phone number, website URL and hours of operation. You can also add photos, reviews, service area, and a business description. When you first sign up, you'll receive credit toward your first Google Ads.
The purpose of the GBP is to promote your business online. You can show your unique business personality through photos and logos you put on the listing. If your business is having a special event, special holiday hours, sale or is temporarily closed for remodeling you can post that on your profile, too.
When you list your business on Google it will appear on the Google maps listing. That is the map and business list that shows up when you Google "restaurants near me" or "auto repair shops in Bismark, North Dakota." Google makes it easy to get your business name in front of potential customers with this free tool.
For many local businesses, the GBP is one of the primary ways they attract customers. When prospects search for a business nearby, they are most often ready to buy. If you pop up and are right around the corner - you are almost guaranteed some business. You will be able to reach a wider audience and stay competitive with other businesses in your area.
Google Business Profile is simply a new name for Google My Business. GBP does offer several new features. If you previously had a profile on Google My Business you might want to log in to edit any information that has changed and learn how to use the new features. Some of the updates include:
First - Search Google profile
Next - Log into your account
Finally - Click on “Edit my Profile” to add or change information
If you don't see your business when you search, it may be because it is not appearing on page one. Click on "More Businesses" at the bottom of the listing and see if you can find it. Your goal is to get to that front page through a process called optimization.
Your business profile must be complete before it will appear above top ranking businesses. Good reviews and attributes users are looking for will also help. For example, if your business is universally accessible, you might want to say that.
Optimizing your profile by adding relevant information and completing every category can bring your business up in more search results. This is called search engine optimization. You may want to enlist the services of an SEO agency to help you create the most effective profile. They can help you improve the way your business appears online.
